The gift of Fortitude is a supernatural impulse which gives strength to the soul, not only on exceptional occasions such as that of martyrdom, but also in normal difficulties: in the struggle to remain consistent with one’s principles: in putting up with insults and unjust attacks: in courageous perseverance on the path of truth and uprightness, in spite of lack of understanding and hostility. When, like Jesus in Gethsemane, we experience “the weakness of the flesh” (cf. Mt 26:41; Mk 14:38), or rather, of human nature subject to physical and psychological infirmities, we should ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of Fortitude to remain firm and decisive on the path of goodness. Then we will be able to repeat with St Paul: “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong” (1 Cor 12:10). (Pope John Paul II 14 May 1989)
Come O Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Your well beloved Spouse and fill us with the gift of Fortitude. Amen
Come, Holy Spirit, Creator come,
From your bright heavenly throne!
Come, take possession of our souls,
And make them all your own.
You who are called the Paraclete,
Best gift of God above,
The living spring, the living fire,
Sweet unction, and true love!
You who are sevenfold in your grace,
Finger of God’s right hand,
His promise, teaching little ones
To speak and understand!
O guide our minds with your blessed light,
With love our hearts inflame,
And with your strength which never decays
Confirm our mortal frame.
Far from us drive our hellish foe
True peace unto us bring,
And through all perils guide us safe
Beneath your sacred wing.
Through you may we the Father know,
Through you the eternal Son
And you the Spirit of them both
Thrice-blessed three in one.
All glory to the Father be,
And to the risen Son;
The same to you, O Paraclete,
While endless ages run.
Message of Our Lady 25th May 2009
“Dear children! In this time, I call you all to pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit upon every baptized creature, so that the Holy Spirit may renew you all and lead you on the way of witnessing your faith – you and all those who are far from God and His love. I am with you and intercede for you before the Most High. Thank you for having responded to my call. ”
Act of Personal Consecration to the Holy Spirit by Fr. Ciaran McDonnell (R.I.P)
[Chaplain to English speaking pilgrims in Medjugorje, 2001-2002]
O Holy Spirit,
love that proceeds from the Father and the Son,
font of inexhaustible graces and life,
To You, I desire to consecrate my person, my past, my present, my future, my desires, my choices, my decisions, my thoughts, my affections,
all that I am, all those whom I encounter, whom I think of, whom I know, whom I love and all that with which my life makes contact.
From the power of your light, from the warmth of your presence, from your peace,
are all your blessings.
You are the Lord and giver of life, and without your strength, nothing is without fault.
O Spirit of eternal love, come into my heart, renew it and make it ever more like the heart of Mary, so that I can become now and always, temple and tabernacle of your Divine Presence. AMEN
PRAY 7 GLORY BE’S
We are offering this Novena to the Holy Spirit for the people of Ireland to open their hearts, minds and ears to hear His voice of Truth, that all life is Sacred from conception to natural death, as we approach the Referendum on Abortion on the 25th May.
The Irish Government wants to change our Constitution, which currently protects the life of the mother and the pre-born baby (babies) in her womb and wants to bring in un-restricted abortion up to 12 weeks, which could change to, up to full term, if they so legislate in the future.
Please join us, if you wish, in offering this Novena for a ‘NO’ vote on the 25th May, in Ireland, so that abortion will not come into our Country.
