Today in St James’ Church, Medjugorje, on the Memorial of Blessed Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac, the 6pm Holy Mass will be offered for all the parishioners killed in the course of World War I and II, as well as during the Homeland Civil War, and all those who gave their lives for the faith and their homeland.
During WW1, 61 people from Medjugoorje were missing or killed, in WW2, 1,386 people were killed and 10 people in the recent Homeland War.
Also remembered today all the Franciscans born in Medjugorje or those who served here and who were killed and martyred by the communists during or after the World War II.
Of the 66 Franciscans of the Herzegovinian Province that were martyred in 1945, 10 of them were connected to the parish of Medjugorje, they are:
