It was on a very rainy night, that 15 people from a village in Knock, Co Mayo, Ireland, witnessed a Heavenly sight. The night in question, 21st August 1879, at approximately 8pm, an Apparition of Our Lady, St Joseph, St. John the Evangelist, a Lamb (The Lamb of God) and a cross on an altar were seen at the gable wall of the Parish Church.
The Apparition lasted two hours and the witnesses prayed the Rosary in the pouring rain while no rain fell on the gable wall or on the Apparition itself.
The 15 official witnesses were from 5 years old to 74 years old and were from Knock and surrounding areas.
Each of the witnesses gave testimonies to a Commission of Enquiry in October 1879. The findings of the Commission were that the testimonies were both trustworthy and satisfactory.
