It was the Feast of St. Pio, 23rd September 2013. News rapidly spread through the village of Medjugorje and indeed through modern technology, to the rest of the world, about a strange occurrence that was taking place in Vicka’s Grandmother’s old house, commonly known as the ‘Blue House’.
For anyone having had the privilege of being in that room where the Gospa appeared countless times to Vicka, especially during the period of her illness, one can’t help but note the tangible peace. But on this night in question, 23rd September, an inexplicable light began to radiate from around the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes that was on a dresser along-side a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a smaller statue of The Immaculate Heart of Mary.
This particular statue, was gifted to Vicka by some Italian Pilgrims some thirty years previously, now seemed to have a hue of a blue light that encased the statue and it was thought that someone had put fluorescent paint on it to make it glow, but it glowed even when the light was not switched on.
May locals believed it was a sign for the parishioners themselves to renew their prayer life. Two days later the Gospa gave this message:
“Dear children! Also today I call you to prayer. May your relationship with prayer be a daily one. Prayer works miracles in you and through you, therefore, little children, may prayer be a joy for you. Then your relationship with life will be deeper and more open and you will comprehend that life is a gift for each of you. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
Our Lady is continuing to give us signs and this was perhaps a wake-up call for us all, to be the light to those in darkness, to pray more with our heart so that more miracles can be worked in us and through us. Our Lady says at the beginning of her message; “Also today I call you to pray” and if takes a glowing statue to renew us in our prayer, then God would surely permit it to happen?
The statue was removed for examination and is now in the care of the Franciscans in Medjugorje.
Sometime later, Vicka was asked about the statue. She said that she was away when the incident occurred, but in the thirty years that the statue was in her possession it never glowed, but, she said, ‘Our Lady is appearing now for 32 years , in a sense illuminating Medjugorje. In the darkness of the times today, Our Lady is sending a little light. Our Lady has often given little signs, but often we remain deaf and blind. I recommend that everyone prays with the eyes of their heart so that light can enter in, so take the Rosary in your hand and pray.’
