The Walk for Peace began in 1992 during the war and was instigated by a German man Hubert Liebherr, with the blessing of Archbishop Frano Franic and Fr. Leonard Orec. However, late Fr. Slavko Barbaric, was the heart and the soul of this Walk all of the years until he died.

The walk for Peace takes place annually on the 24th June , on the feast of St. John the Baptist,  Traditionally, each year, the parishioners, Priests  and pilgrims meet outside the monastery of St. Anthony in Humac and begin the walk there, arriving outside St. James’ church at 10 am.

This years as with others, a sea of people prayerfully processed behind the Crucifix for 11 kilometres prayig and singing. When the pilgrims arrived at St. James’Church in Medjugorje all knelt in humble Adoration as the Most Blessed Sacrament was exposed for Benediction. A fitting way to end the walk for peace by Adoring the King of Peace, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
